I found out from my previous audience research that people have different views on social realism and the theme of my film which is bullying.

When asked about social realism there were both positive and negative responses, for example, some people said social realism is an interesting genre for film because they can “relate to the real life issues and themes” other people stated that the social realism genre is “too depressing” and they dislike it and feel uncomfortable watching it.

People who answered my questionnaire also had different views on bullying which is going to be the main theme of my film. Some people said not enough is done in schools to prevent bullying and that “bullying needs to stop” especially in schools as it’s what stops kids from going to school and gaining a decent education which everyone is entitled to.

There were also views on peer pressure as I asked in my questionnaire “is peer pressure a prominent example of bullying?” Everyone answered yes which is what I was hoping for as my social realism film is all about bullying and peer pressure combined and how both issues over lap in day-to-day life.

I asked if people had had personal experiences of bullying and mixed responses proved some people had while others hadn’t. Bullying appeared to be reoccurring in one particular age group (10-24). This proves bullying is most common in school which reinforces my film idea and the possible audience I could gain.

I also briefly asked people in the 10-24 age groups if they could give examples of what had happened to them so I could get a better idea of what to include in my film. Results show people had been affected mostly by verbal bullying with the occasional physical attack.

I then went on to ask in my questionnaire if people “would watch a social realism film with bullying as its main film?” Everyone answered yes and, again, this makes me feel more confident and positive about my ideas.
In comparison, most people who answered my questionnaire understood the term social realism and that bullying is an example of it but other people had to ask me about it. There was one question (What naturalistic issues affect your day to day life if any?) which some people found hard to understand so I had to give examples and explain the term naturalism.

I think my audience research has proved successful as I’ve found out what issues and themes affect certain people and this gives me a better idea about what to include in my two minute intro.
